Description

Cobalt's atomic number is 27 and its symbol is Co. Cobalt is often synonymous with the color “Cobalt Blue'', however, pure cobalt ranges from a lustrous silver to dark grey color. The blue color that is associated with cobalt is the result of cobalt and halogen gas compounds. Cobalt gets its from german miners that would refer to blue cobalt-containing ore as “kobold ore” which is german for “goblin ore”. Cobalt compounds have been used as dyes since 1400 BC to color glass, glazes, and ceramics. In modern-day industries, cobalt is used in lithium-ion batteries, wear-resistant metal alloys, and as a catalyst for drying oils.
