Neon's atomic number is 10 and its symbol is Ne. Neon is a noble gas. Under standard conditions, neon will not form a compound with any other elements. Neon is well known for the bright orange light that is created when it is electrified. Neon is produced by stars during nuclear fission. Although it is the fifth most abundant element in the universe, it is very rare in the Earth's atmosphere. This is because of its inability to form compounds with other elements that would allow it to stick to the earth. Because it can't stick to the earth and it is lighter than the other gasses that make up the earth's atmosphere most of the neon has simply floated away over time.
The sample of neon that is in our element cubes is under vacuum. This means that when you put the cube near an electrical field, the neon gas will glow a bright orange color.
