Mummification in ancient Egypt was an elaborate process that required special tools, bitumen, and hundreds of yards of linen. This religious ritual was performed by priests and took around 70 days. This fragment of mummy wrapping dates from Egypt's Third Intermediate Period c. 900-700 BC. The fragment was recovered from a sarcophagus owned by BC Antiques, Los Angeles, CA gallery which closed in the 1970s.
