Gold's atomic number is 79 and its symbol is Au. This element needs no introduction. Gold has been mined, panned, fought over, worn, and spent since the stone age around 40,000BC.

Gold appears to be the first metal employed by humans since it can be found in its native form in nature, has a low melting point, and is relatively soft. Besides the obvious monetary use of gold, it is also used for decoration, jewelry, corrosion-resistant electrical contacts, dentistry, and even food.

Safety

We get asked about the radioactivity and overall safety of the periodic tables/cubes from time to time. These are legitimate concerns and we wanted to address those concerns here. Although there are several elements in the cubes that are dangerous or toxic, the acrylic and glass ampules make the products safe to handle and store.

The average American is exposed to 0.034 mrem/hr from background radiation (300 mrem/year). In other words, a person will get three times the radiation from natural background radiation which includes the sun, food, radon, and the environment, than they will from holding a radioactive element in one of our Lucite Acrylic displays.

Care Instructions

Wash with mild soap or detergent and lukewarm water. Use a clean, soft cloth, or sponge. Rinse and blot dry with a damp cloth or chamois.

*Never use abrasive cleaners, household cleaners, window-cleaning fluids, scouring compounds, gritty cloths, or strong solvents such as alcohol, acetone, carbon tetrachloride, etc.*

To maintain the brilliant luster of acrylic, wax and occasionally with a quality grade of automobile paste wax (NOT A CLEANER WAX COMBINATION.) Apply a thin coat with a clean, cotton flannel cloth. Then wipe with a clean damp cloth. NEVER USE HOUSEHOLD SPRAY WAXES.

Soooo pretty

Reminds me of when I was kid and got the little vile of gold from sifting for gold at a theme park. Only this is encased in a beautiful glass cube! Amazing!

Hi nerds and friends!

I believe the gold cube is a very fun and interesting gift! Nothing beats the look of surprise on my partner's face when I gift him one of these! The only disappointing factor is the amount of material inside, which is very minimal, hence 4 stars
