This striking framed piece honors the bravery of the U.S. Army’s legendary airborne divisions during the D-Day invasion of June 6, 1944. At its center is an original WWII 48-star American flag patch, carried into battle by paratroopers who dropped behind enemy lines into occupied France under the cover of darkness.

In the chaos of night combat, they helped American troops identify one another and avoid friendly fire. Today, this preserved artifact stands as a powerful reminder of unity, sacrifice, and courage.

Surrounding the flag are two of the most iconic insignias in military history:

  • The 82nd Airborne Division’s “All American” patch—the first shoulder sleeve insignia ever authorized by the U.S. Army in 1918, symbolizing soldiers from all 48 states.
  • The 101st Airborne Division’s “Screaming Eagle” patch, worn by the first wave of paratroopers who led the charge into Normandy on D-Day.

Completing the display is the Battle of Normandy 1944 campaign streamer, a distinguished military decoration awarded to units that participated in the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater during World War II. These streamers are traditionally used in military ceremonies and carried on unit flags, honoring the courage and success of forces involved in the D-Day invasion and the liberation of France.
