Vanadium's atomic number is 23 and its symbol is V. Vanadium is a gunship-grey transitional metal. Vanadium is industrially used to strengthen steel and to make it corrosion-resistant. The first large-scale use of this vanadium steel was in the production of the Model T. Vanadium can be found in certain fungi and the blood of certain sea creatures such as the sea squirt. It is believed that Vanadium acts as a toxin to deter other creatures from eating them. Vanadium is able to form metal aquo complexes with water. The resulting complexes turn bright colors including lilac, green, blue, and yellow.
