Neodymium's atomic number is 60 and its symbol is Nd. Neodymium is a hard, silvery rare earth metal that tarnishes when exposed to moisture in the air. Despite neodymium being classified as a rare earth element, it is just as common as nickel or copper. Because pure neodymium is not found naturally in the earth's crust, it is mined from various ores and minerals.
Neodymium is used to produce the strongest permanent magnets in the world, laser filters, and colored glass. When neodymium glass is in sunlight it appears to be a lavender color, but appears blue under fluorescent lighting.
The neodymium in this display is housed within an argon-filled ampule to prevent it from oxidizing and tarnishing over time. This ensures that you will have a perfect model of the elements for years to come.
