The Trinity bomb experiment was the first test of a nuclear weapon developed by the United States. Conducted on July 16, 1945, in the Jornada del Muerto desert near Alamogordo, New Mexico, the bomb was a plutonium implosion-type device with a yield of approximately 20 kilotons of TNT. The test was led by physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer, who oversaw the development of the bomb as part of the Manhattan Project.
The bomb was detonated at 5:29:45 a.m. local time, and the explosion generated a bright flash of light, followed by a massive fireball and mushroom cloud that reached over 41,000 feet in height. The temperature at the center of the Trinity bomb is estimated to have been several million degrees Celsius. The intense heat generated by the blast caused the sand in the surrounding area to fuse together forming a radioactive green glass called Trinitite.
The blast also created a crater over 1,200 feet wide and 150 feet deep. The test was a success, and the bomb's explosive power exceeded expectations.
The Trinity test marked the first time a nuclear weapon had been detonated and was a significant moment in the history of nuclear weapon development. The test provided valuable information about the behavior of nuclear weapons and helped pave the way for the development of more advanced nuclear weapons.
The trinitite that was formed contains small amounts of radioactive isotopes, primarily plutonium and americium. Not all of the plutonium core actually participated in the nuclear chain reaction. The remainder of the plutonium that did not react was vaporized and infused into the trinitite that was formed.

Wash with mild soap or detergent and lukewarm water. Use a clean, soft cloth, or sponge. Rinse and blot dry with a damp cloth or chamois.
*Never use abrasive cleaners, household cleaners, window-cleaning fluids, scouring compounds, gritty cloths, or strong solvents such as alcohol, acetone, carbon tetrachloride, etc.*
To maintain the brilliant luster of acrylic, wax and occasionally with a quality grade of automobile paste wax (NOT A CLEANER WAX COMBINATION.) Apply a thin coat with a clean, cotton flannel cloth. Then wipe with a clean damp cloth. NEVER USE HOUSEHOLD SPRAY WAXES.

A nice Lucite cube sample of Trinitite, but only historically connected to Plutonium. There is no radioactivity being emitted (including alpha and gamma radiation) that’s higher than the background radiation. (In contrast, the autunite samples for uranium and astatine do give off “high” detectable radiation.) So if the sample is true Trinitite, then at least you have something that was once connected to plutonium but now is totally depleted of any detectable radiation.
Goes great with the uranium chunk! Can’t wait to order the next radioactive piece — likely the piece of medal from the medic box from Chernobyl. The plutonium piece is interesting given its history, where it is from and how it presents. Very pleased I was able to pick it up and on sale even if my hubby thinks he is starting to glow with these purchases for his office and isn’t sold on having them the same way I am!

This is the perfect companion to the uranium cube I ordered from Engineered Labs a couple of years ago. The plutonium/trinitite specimen itself is of a decent size and is nicely set in the acrylic cube. It's very elegant looking - not at all cheesy or schlocky. It's cool to have, but the sample was pretty small. While I was expecting something a little more like glass (although your photograph looks exactly like what I got, so that one is on me), it did have little glass-like beads all over it. I haven't yet checked for any radiation, but am hoping that a few gammas can escape the lucite. I have both sizes of your uranium cubes that I really like also, and that passed the UV test, which of course is not possible with plutonium, which I did try, and verified no UV response.

I have been waiting for my order from this site for 57 days since this review was posted. (8 weeks 1 day or since Sep 9, 2025) I live beside the Manila-Rizal Border, so instead of it taking 5 weeks, it’s gonna take a few months for the cube.

I do not know if it was an purpose but my review was deleted, so I will do it again: This sample is seemingly exactly the same as the simple „Trinitite“ sample which costs half the price. Even the size is principally the same. Therefore, I recommend to buy just the regular Trinitite sample (which also contains the same amount of plutonium).
